Norma Eiman announced the upcoming Johnson Rayburn Richards dinner to be held Oct 17 and encouraged all to attend. The JRR Dinner is the major fundraiser each year for the Harris County Democratic Party. The event will include a silent auction, a special recognition for Nick Lampson and will feature Congressman James Clyburn as dinner speaker.
Robert Jara from the group Texans for Tier One came to the meeting on Monday evening to tell us about the benefits to Texas of getting more Tier One universities in our state. He said approving the Constitutional amendment on our November ballots would not create any tax, but would free up funds of around $500 million to be used for funding research grants and such at seven of our public Universities. The University of Houston would be one of those benefiting.
Natalie Oaks is campaigning for a Juvenile Court Judgship. She ia inviting the Braeswood Democrats to come to a Bellaire Brunch and Garden Party at 4826 Palmetto @ 2nd in Bellaire on Saturday October 10th from 11 am to 1 pm.
Laurence McCullough led a very thorough discussion of the current health care crisis and gave all attending a better understanding of the health care legislation and what may come out of the current discussions in Congress. Everyone had many questions and enjoyed the energetic discussion.
